Heather Ashworth

Dominating the “Dink” in Real Estate and Pickleball.

Heather Ashworth combines experience and control to execute shots with precision on and off the pickleball court.

I was born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC, where soccer was a huge part of my life and shaped who I am today. Growing up, I spent countless hours on the field, learning the value of teamwork, communication, and perseverance—skills that have become the foundation of my real estate career. Soccer taught me how to work with others, solve problems, and adapt quickly, all while staying focused on a common goal. I still play with the Wilmington Women’s Soccer Association at Veterans Park, and being part of a team continues to fuel my competitive spirit and love for the game.

Last summer, I discovered pickleball, and it has quickly become a new passion of mine. I play in a league at Beau Rivage, and I love how the sport combines competition with social interaction. I am incredibly competitive! The Wilmington pickleball scene is vibrant and growing, and it’s so easy to get involved. You can show up, put your paddle in, and join a game with strangers, making new connections with people from all walks of life. The communal and welcoming nature of the sport is something I truly enjoy.

Beyond enjoying the physical and competitive nature of the game, pickleball has also had a surprising impact on my real estate career. I’ve met clients and received referrals through the connections I’ve made on the court, further expanding my professional network. It’s amazing how a quick game can turn into a valuable business opportunity, whether it’s a direct client relationship or a referral from another agent! Pickleball has helped me sharpen my communication and teamwork skills, reinforcing how important those skills are in every area of life. Whether I’m on the court or in a meeting, I love the chance to connect with others and build relationships.

Education has always been a cornerstone of my life. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders from East Carolina University after beginning my studies at the University of South Carolina. In 2013, I received my Master’s Degree as a Speech-Language Pathologist and later pursued additional graduate coursework at UNC Wilmington to specialize in geriatrics. This passion for learning and helping others laid the foundation for my career in therapy. Over the years, I’ve worked with elderly patients, focusing on those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, which has given me a deep understanding of patience, empathy, and the importance of personalized care.

“When one door closes, another opens” has been a guiding mantra in my life. After having my two children, Ward (7) and Parham (5), and navigating changes in the healthcare system, I decided to pivot my career. On a whim, I signed up for a prelicensing real estate class on a Sunday in 2020 and started the very next day. After leaving my job to start a new role in real estate, a friend from college reached out wanting to see a house the very next day, giving me the confirmation I needed that I was on the right path.

My background in therapy naturally prepared me for real estate, teaching me how to guide people through significant transitions, communicate effectively, and stay focused on what matters most. I’ve found a particular passion for working with retirees, as my expertise in geriatrics allows me to help them navigate the unique challenges of finding a home that fits their needs and dreams.

Balancing a busy life between my clients and my family is both challenging and rewarding. My husband, Max, and I, along with our kids, love taking advantage of everything Wilmington has to offer. Whether it’s exploring nearby islands by boat, swimming in the pool, or enjoying family movie nights, we prioritize spending quality time together. We’re big fans of attending our kids’ sporting events, discovering the newest local restaurants, and embracing the natural beauty and events in the Wilmington area. These moments recharge me and remind me why I love helping others find their perfect home in this incredible community.
