Digging Deep!

Hannah Smith spikes success in real estate, aces club volleyball, and nails Super Mom status!

I graduated from Elon University with a degree in Print & Online Journalism. My first job was working as a Journalist for a local newspaper and coincidentally I got my real estate license two months before being laid off! The stars aligned for me. Originally I was just interested in real estate because I was looking to buy a new home, but I decided to take the class and I never looked back.

I was born in NC and spent my summers in Morehead City. As I got older, I wanted to live in an area that felt like being on vacation everyday.

Since I was 14 years old, I played club and travel volleyball which meant my sport season ran for 10 months out of the year. I am very appreciative of my parents who supported my goals during that time. My favorite aspect of playing volleyball is teamwork & camaraderie. It’s a team sport and you can’t win the game if one player is feeling down; it affects the whole team. I've always enjoyed supporting my teammates and boosting their morale during the game. I like to bring people together for a common goal and for the greater good. I’ve played many other sports, but it wasn’t the same.

My favorite role ever is being a mom. I have a very active toddler basically full time, since my husband is in the military. He comes with me everywhere I go and is learning the business behind the scenes. My clients don’t mind my little shadow tagging along at work and his giggles make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.

I played every position in volleyball and my versatility in sports ties directly into my role as a real estate agent. At any moment in the day I can pick up wherever the need is and am ready for anything! I’ve helped clean houses, moved clients out of their house, whatever they need, I am there. My laid back attitude jives really well with plenty of personality types. My main clients are military families, and relocating means they are coming from out of state and normally in a rush on a quick timeline. It’s stressful and can be very challenging, but I help my clients feel prepared and informed every step of the way. My journalism experience calls me to get to know my client’s stories. It allows me to understand exactly what the client is looking for and how to best help reach their goals. For example, my best friend was set on not purchasing new construction but there was one that I knew was the perfect fit. We looked at 10 houses a day, 40 houses total and I finally convinced her to let me take her to the new construction home and the moment she walked in the door, she said “This is it!”
